Los Angeles Clippers news: Charlotte Hornets rookie Brandon Miller made all sorts of headlines last year when he made the audacious claim that Paul George is the GOAT.
The Clippers star himself would be the first to say that he isn’t the greatest to ever pick up a basketball, but this statement from the 21-year-old is living proof of how George has emerged as a major influence on the next generation of talents.
Brandon Miller Explains Paul George GOAT Claim
Miller cleared the air on his bold statement by clarifying that he has no intention of downplaying the greatness of LeBron James (and Michael Jordan, perhaps?). The former Alabama standout shed light as to why he believes PG is the greatest ever:
“I just never really studied LeBron,” Miller said, via Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN. “I don’t knock LeBron. We know LeBron’s the GOAT [for many others], best player for sure. But that was never my objective to study LeBron or study Kobe.
“Paul George is the best player in my eyes … I don’t really watch anybody else as far as trying to get their moves down. Paul George is my GOAT.”
Los Angeles Clippers Star Paul George Reacts
Miller isn’t the only young player who holds George in such high regard. The Clippers All-Star himself has recognized the esteemed position he has found himself in and he’s done what he can to take it all in stride:
“Coming into that year is where I slowly started to hear, ‘Yo, you’re my favorite player. I look up to you,'” George told ESPN. “My come up is where the young generation started to kind of gravitate towards me.”
George also acknowledged how Miller was heavily criticized for his GOAT statement. Apparently. PG reached out to the young Hornets swingman, and the former has now become a bit of a mentor for Miller:
“People were making fun of him, about me being his GOAT,” George said.
“And I just had to tell him, ‘Man, be you. Embrace how you feel.’ It’s about who inspires you. I know what he meant by it. Obviously, I’m not the greatest of all time to ever play this game.”
Wise words from the GOAT.
