Unlike what many WNBA fans expected, the Indiana Fever are having a hard time getting some wins, even with rookie guard Caitlin Clark in the lineup. This has led head coach Christie Sides to get real about their recent game against the New York Liberty after facing the Chicago Sky before them.
A couple of days ago, Indiana hosted the Sky in their own home court and got the close 71-70 win against them. Kelsey Mitchell led the team with 18 points while NaLyssa Smith added 17 points and nine rebounds. Meanwhile, Clark had an awful night from deep with only 11 points on 22 percent outside shooting.

A day after their game against Chicago, Indiana had the New York Liberty visit them at home. Unfortunately, they dismantled the Fever via a dominant 104-68 victory. Betnijah Laney dropped 20 points, while Jonquel Jones and Sabrian Ionescu each had 18 and 16 points, respectively. Moreover, Clark didn’t play well as she finished the game with only three points, two rebounds, and five assists.
With Clark still adjusting to the physicality of the WNBA, Indiana has failed to find their rhythm as the season progresses. If this continues, they may find themselves at the bottom of the league again.
Indiana Fever Head Coach Christie Sides Gets Real on Playing New York Liberty After Chicago Sky

After the game, Sides faced reporters and shared her thoughts about the game. In a video shared by Scott Agness on X:
Fever lose by 36 in NY, go 2-9 on grueling 11-game stretch; now 4 days between games.
Christie Sides: “This isn’t a good matchup for us. It’s probably the worst team we could’ve played on a back-to-back with how we’re feeling and how are legs are.”

During that 11-game run, Clark hasn’t really made much of an impact for Indiana when she just averaged 15.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 6.4 assists, and 1.3 steals per contest. She also shot 35 percent from the field and almost 30 percent from deep, making her inefficient with the ball in her hands.

It remains to be seen whether Indiana can bounce back in the coming days or not. What’s certain, though, is the pressure of winning has gotten to Sides and and the entire team after losing nine of their last 11 games.
